Progress continues on schedule for NAIT's newest building
NAIT’s Productivity and Innovation Centre (PIC) is rapidly taking shape at the east end of NAIT's Main Campus.
Structural concrete and steel have been completed on the 17,650-square-metre (190,000-square-foot) building and construction continues on schedule for a 2018 opening.
PIC will be the place industry comes to succeed. It will enable industry in Alberta and Western Canada to become more competitive and sustainable by serving as a hub for services related to
- Productivity – PIC will double NAIT’s capacity to help industry clients learn and apply the foundations of productivity, and analyze and implement productivity solutions.
- Acceleration – PIC will offer business innovation and product development services including early stage prototyping, product validation and adoption, business model optimization and market validation. PIC will also house NAIT’s TechGym, where member companies will be able to access specialized equipment and expertise to assist in prototype design, development and testing.
- Applied Research – NAIT partners with companies to solve critical challenges through industry-driven applied research. In addition to housing NAIT’s Centre for Oil Sands Sustainability and our Centre for Sensors and System Integration, PIC will also be home to new applied research centres for water technology, smart energy generation and distribution, smart building systems and manufacturing.
PIC was made possible through funding from the Government of Canada, which committed $34.98 million to the project through its Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund. NAIT will invest more than $45 million.
